What differentiates Reading Sparkers® from other reading programs?

The Reading Sparkers® Motivational Reading Program excels in four (4) main areas when compared to other reading programs. Reading Sparkers® offers Multiple Coordinated Learning Modalities (including online and printed materials), Assessment Testing (pre and post tests), Detailed Reports on each student's progress and the ability to Control the learning experience to match each student's specific needs.

Although Reading Sparkers® uses ‘fun’ activities that encourage the student to learn while playing games, all of the activities are designed on solid, proven professional teaching techniques. 

Coordinated Learning Materials

Reading Sparkers® is not a single game or reader like other products but rather an entire coordinated reading system, containing 48 units, that truly uses phonics to teach your student to read. 

Each of the 48 units:

  • has coordinated materials that use different techniques to reinforce the phonic skill being taught in that unit. See Scope and Sequence. 
  • is built upon the skills learned in the previous unit. See How it Works.

Additionally, Reading Sparkers® uses the Coloring Book Readers and Hybrid Phonic- Comprehension Activities to determine if the student truly comprehends the skills taught.    

Assessment Tests

Unlike other products that are just games, Reading Sparkers® uses assessment testing both before and after a student completes a group of 8 units. Educators can administister the tests as often as they like.

The pre-tests help the teacher:

  • determine which phonic skills to teach
  • identify possible reading deficiencies

The post-tests determine which skills the student:

  • has mastered
  • needs to repeat.

The Pre and Post Phonic Assessment tests are incorporated in Club Sparkers™ online and are available in print.

Reports

Club Sparkers™ online games have a variety of sophisticated reports that provide the teacher with valuable information about the student’s performance while ‘playing’ the games.

The teacher can use the reports to:

  • find out what units the student played
  • view the student's response to each question (Miscue Analysis)
  • obtain the student's score
  • determine how long it took the student to complete each unit.

Individualized Controls

The Club Sparkers™ online games have various controls that allow the teacher to tailor the learning experience to match each student's individual needs.

The teacher has control over:

  • the order the units are taught
  • the number of times a word is presented to the student (if the answer is incorrect)
  • the time the student has to respond
  • how frequently the student receives an accolade
  • when and if to repeat a unit
